2018 Advocacy Ambassadors
New in 2018, the Physician Advocacy Network will be working with Advocacy Ambassadors from the University of Minnesota's Medical School, School of Public Health, and College of Pharmacy to lead their peers in local tobacco policy engagement with a focus on Tobacco 21.
Advocacy Ambassadors will work to increase awareness and engagement among peers about current tobacco policies while gaining leadership and networking experience as well as receiving a monthly stipend for their efforts.
The deadline to apply is September 25, 2018.
Student advocates played a critical role the Physician Advocacy Network's policy accomplishments. From emailing elected officials to meeting with decision makers and testifying at City Council Meetings, students can make a lasting change in their community while learning valuable skills and adding to their resume. When you sign up for action alerts, the Physician Advocacy Network will contact you with opportunities to support tobacco prevention policies. Whether you have 5 minutes or 5 hours, you can make a difference!
Dr. Pete Dehnel Public Health Advocacy Fellowship
Beginning in 2018, the Physician Advocacy Network and Twin Cities Medical Society are pleased to offer the Dr. Pete Dehnel Public Health Advocacy Fellowship program which creates opportunities for current medical students to engage in local public health advocacy activities relevant to a personal area of interest. Students select a priority public issue to focus on throughout the program and work with a physician mentor to determine meaningful actions that can be taken to advocate for relevant policies at the local, state or organizational level.
